Barnicoat Range Crossover
Saturday 2 July 2022
16 trampers were keen to complete a traverse of the Barnicoat Range. We all met at 8:45am at Easby Park, Richmond on a beautiful, clear, sunny day.
Marian led the group of eight from Easby Park up to the fire lookout tower for morning tea and along the Barnicoat Range Walkway to the hang gliding area for lunch. While eating lunch they were entertained by a group of hang gliders, which was a highlight of their day. They descended down the Glider Road to the Marsden Valley carpark taking about 5 hours in total.
Our group of eight did the reverse, doing the car shuttle to Marsden Valley. We departed at 9:15am taking Glider Road up to the hang gliding area for morning tea. There was a cool breeze but plenty of sun. We followed the walkway along the range meeting the group coming from the other direction to hand over the car keys. There was plenty of chatting, the group photo was taken and then it was on our way again.
Just after Saxton Hill we left the road and took the track on the seaward side of the trees so we could admire the views down to Stoke and Richmond, Tasman Bay and beyond. A leisurely lunch was had at the fire lookout before heading down to Easby Park via the Barnicoat Track, arriving at 2:15pm, so a 5 hour day also.
